So, one positive development is that in January 2025, a bipartisan act actually expanded federal funding for child welfare by 75 million dollars annually, and that money is now supporting youth all the way up to age 26. Then, in November 2025, a national initiative launched to help foster youth successfully transition to adulthood, with mentorship programs and better career support. And more recently, in early 2026, a state in the Midwest passed a law requiring more frequent home visits for foster families, ensuring ongoing support. So, there’s definitely some steps in the right direction.

There have been some positive developments in child welfare in the U.S. recently. For example, as of November 2025, New Mexico became the first state to offer universal free childcare, which is a big step in preventing child welfare involvement. Also, in December 2025, the Administration for Children and Families launched a program to ensure every youth in foster care has a supportive home, and in February 2026, a bipartisan funding reform plan was introduced to streamline and improve child welfare outcomes. These steps show real momentum toward reform.
