Jane Doe Files

You don’t get to come back now and pretend you care.

You walked out. Not just on me—but on her. On a little girl who used to sit by the window waiting for headlights that never turned into your car. You forfeited that role the moment you decided your freedom mattered more than your family.

She doesn’t need you. I made sure of that. I’ve been the one there for every fever, every nightmare, every school play you couldn’t be bothered to attend. I’ve been mother and father, while you were off living whatever version of a life you chose over us.

And don’t think you can just step in now and confuse her. She’s finally stable. She finally understands who’s been there and who hasn’t. I won’t let you undo that just because you’ve decided your guilt is inconvenient.

If you really care about her—stay away.

Don’t call. Don’t write. Don’t show up pretending you’re something you stopped being a long time ago.

You made your choice.

Now live with it.
