Dont lose your faith in humanity yet, as a nation we are going through a massive reform in how people handle child welfare in our country
If we were including everybody, we would include the school and health care as well, but I'm not gonna include everybody. I'm just gonna talk about the ones that we focused on today, and the ones we focused on today was police, CPS, and court systems. So they should all be allocated the money fairly because it takes all three to prevent abuse. It doesn't just take one. And what's the most insane part about it is that the police involved in these child welfare cases are only there upon removal. So they're only there when they pick up the child and remove them. So that's about five minutes that they spend doing any work in child welfare. And meanwhile, CPS and the juvenile courts are spending a way more vastly incredible amount of time doing the cases and stuff. And so it just, it's not fair and it's in no way going to ever prevent this pattern of abuse in our volatile framework that we currently are seeing no sign of change in. We might be seeing a change in, like, they're not talking about it as much, they're not releasing as much information, but we're not hearing numbers and successes and continued updates. And that's just not fair considering what we were informed about in 2024. And it's like they're avoiding going and owning it. And of course, the county, you know, as time has gone on, the residents are probably feeling like, well, it's been so long, maybe I shouldn't bring it up if everybody else isn't bringing it up. And, you know, there was this whole newspaper paper article about it and reports made to the judges council and like it was just such a big deal for that year. But nothing changed in 2025 from what I'm hearing from you is that there's been not really a change. It's like 2024 could still be happening, but it's just to a much quieter group that maybe doesn't have as many privileges to make it to these board meetings and actually speak up. That's, that's just crazy. It's crazy. Okay.
And that silence is really dangerous because, like you said, it lets the cycle just keep going. I think focusing on that intersection—how all three systems have to be equally accountable—is crucial. And if we don’t hear those numbers, if we don’t have those consistent updates, people just lose faith in the process. So it really is on all of us to keep pushing and keep making noise so that these kids get the safety they deserve.
Absolutely. Another great step forward happened in 2026, when a major city implemented a pilot program pairing every child entering foster care with a dedicated case advocate, ensuring they have a consistent adult presence. And in early 2026, a big improvement in aftercare services was introduced, offering youth who age out of foster care expanded housing and job support. So, even though the system still needs a lot of work, these are real steps toward a safer future for kids.
